TEACHER’S SECTION
INTRODUCTION
Empathy is the power of understanding and share the feelings of another person; step into another
person’s shoes. This month with the theme as Dignity and Empathy, let the students feel the situations
with the following case cards and let them solve these problems in the best way by using a democratic
way.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES –
1. Students will empathise with the situation a person feels in the given situation.
2. Students will get sensitised to the democratic way of solving problems in their own way.
STEPS FOR THE ACTIVITY –
1. Display the case cards in the classroom and let the students choose the cases to solve.
2
2. Each student needs to select 1 elder partner to solve the problem (Elder brother/sister, parents,
family member, neighbours etc.)
3. Explain to the students the given situations, and that they need to analyse the situation and
think critically about:
a. What support the person requires in the given situations?
b. How can your team solve their problem? (1 best way to solve the problem)
c. Make a flow chart to solve the issue.
4. Give a week’s time to complete the activity.
5. Select the best cases and solutions and display in the classroom.
For Example –
Case - A new child has been admitted to your class in the middle of the academic year. No one wants to
sit with him/her as he/she is a wheelchair user and some students bully him/her during the free period
and during recess. You as a class monitor have been given the responsibility to solve the situation.
The support he/she requires –
1. He/she needs good friend/s
2. He/she needs teacher’s support to familiarise him/her with the classmates
3. He/she needs support in studies, to complete notes, etc.
My solutions –
I, as a class monitor, will first make him/her a friend and familiarize him/her with my school
environment
I will request my friends to share their books and notebooks with him/her on a rotational
basis to help him/her with studies and to complete the school work
I will request my class teacher to talk to the students, who bully him/her in her/his absence
and make them and the whole class aware of the punishment and Anti-bullying policy
existing in my school
I will request the Principal and school council members to create an orientation programme/ice-
breaking activity/buddy system for new students to help them settle in the new environment

only bread earner of the family. She does not go to school as she has to take care of the house, and her
siblings, as her mother keeps unwell regularly. Suppose that you know Rita who is a very bright girl, and
wants to go to school, but her father can’t afford the school fees.

CASE STUDY 2 –
Right in front of your home, there is a traffic signal where Ritik and Shivani (Brother and sister) sit for

a bribe on a daily basis to let them sell for the day. Half of their earnings usually go towards such bribes.
How will you help Ritik and Shivani?
CASE STUDY 3 –
There are many elderly couples living alone in your society. There is no one at their home to take them
to buy the necessary goods from market, or to the bank, or to medical store, or to the doctor’s clinic.
They need help on a daily basis.
