TEACHER’S SECTION
THE ORIGINAL GAME
This game/activity is an adaptation of the popular game ‘Bombing the Cities’. Here four corners are
marked and named after four different cities. Chits for those four cities are also made. The participants
run around as music plays. When the music stops, each participant chooses any one corner. Now every
corner has a group of participants. One chit from the four chits is picked up. The city/corner that matches
with the name on the chit is the city that gets bombed. The participants who have chosen that corner are
out of the game. The game continues with remaining participants, till the time there is just one participant
who is safe and is the winner.
THE ADAPTED GAME
At Desh Apnayen we strive towards transforming students into Alert, Informed and Active Citizens, by
encouraging them to take charge of the civic issues and solve these issues using their problem-solving
skills. Hence we have enhanced this game to ‘Save your City’.
Here, once the students have chosen their corners, they get a chance to save their city by solving the civic
issues pertaining to that particular city. For example, water shortage, crimes, migration etc. The cities fall
under different zones, i.e., East, West, North, and South. Each zone with its own distinct cities and issues.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES–
1. The game will help students to develop a practical approach, reinforce critical thinking and problem-
solving skills, teach them about the importance of cooperation in a democracy as against
competition, and team work.
2. It will also act as a stepping stone to know about the existence of myriad issues and the governance
in one particular part of India.
3. It will enable students to learn in a fun way, and to empathize with the problems of different regions
of the country and solve the same in their own way.
4. It will act as a practice session for other competitions like MUN, Model BMC, etc.
ESTIMATED TIME – 60 MINUTES
PREPARATION:
1. Marking the four corners of a classroom with ‘East’, ‘West’, ‘North’ and ‘South’
2. 4 Chits: One each for East, West, North, and South
3. Case cards/Issue cards for four corners printed/written on different coloured papers (Red, Yellow,
Blue and Green for East, West, North, and South respectively)
4. Some pre-recorded/downloaded patriotic songs
PLAY THE GAME –
1. It is a fun game. The participating students will move in a circle to the tune of some music (DA
recommends you to play some patriotic songs).
2. When the music stops, each participant will have to stop at any one corner depicting East, West, North
or South.
3. Once the students have chosen their corners, then one chit from the four would be chosen. That
particular zone is under the danger of being bombed and the students in the zone will have to save
their city. For example, if the chit chosen was East, then the students who have gathered in the East
corner will have to solve problems pertaining to the East
4. Students in each corner will act like the Municipal corporation of that zone/city and try to solve
different problems of the city. Names will be displayed according to particular name of the Municipal
corporation of that particular city.
5. Students will pick up one case card/issue card that has the name of the city from their zone, and solve
the problem mentioned on that card
6. The team gets 5 minutes to provide 3 solutions to the given problem
7. If the students, as a team are successful in solving the problem in those 5 minutes, and to the teacher’s
satisfaction, they are safe. Else their zone gets bombed, and they are out of the game and the other
students continue to move in a circle and the game continues with the remaining students.
8. Ask the students from the bombed zones to conduct the game
9. The game could continue till all the zones are safe or when it games is at its highest point of fun

problems/issues are only indicative and designed to challenge the problem-solving skills of the
students.
