MAIN ACTIVITY
Estimated Time: 30 mins.
- Divide the class into groups of 6 to 8 students as per the group size.
- Inform the students in their groups they will do the following:
- List down 3-4 rules/actions they would like to include in the Classroom Rules that everyone must follow in line with school policies. While creating rules, think how they will help & their importance. (what is the rationale behind the rule)
- Assign points to each action. For example – switching off the light & fans when not required – positive 2 points.
- Keep the language of rules simple and specific.
(Annexure 1 can be shown or given to students. Students are free to present as per their creativity)
- Inform the students they will get 15 minutes to do the task. One group representative can be decided who will present the rule on behalf of the group.
- Ask each group to share one rule. Then ask the whole class if they will follow this rule if they say yes – make it a part of Classroom Rules. In this manner decide at least 4 rules (and maximum 7 rules) for everyone to follow in the classroom.
Office Bearers can display the rules One pager on Desh Apnayen Wall. You can also get the students/group representatives to sign the rules.
Note – Tell everyone we will follow them for a week. Points can be awarded either in group basis or individual basis & a point meter can be maintained by Office Bearer/group representatives. It can be displayed on Desh Apnayen Wall (Optional activity – Teacher can decide)
CONCLUDE THE ACTIVITY
NOTE - If time permits, the teacher can give Office Bearer opportunity to do conclude this activity as mentioned below. Incase if time is short, invite the office bearer to ask the students – What did they learn from the activity?
Office Bearer will ask students the following questions -
- Who made the decisions in your group?
- How were the decisions made? Were there any discussions where people didn’t agree?
- Did any rule change from their original idea upon discussion? Share - How did it happen?
- How will having these rules help?
- What happens when we ourselves create rules?
- Why rules are necessary?
- Do we have a rule book as a country? What is it called? (If no one answers, teacher can cover it in during conclusion)
Teacher will summarize the key learning points for the activity –
- It is the duty of everyone to follow the rules, we can have leaders who will make sure that people follow them.
- Rules help to keep and maintain discipline.
The book where all the rules for our country are written is called Constitution of India. (Teacher can say we will study more about it in coming years.)
