MAIN ACTIVITY
Estimated Time: 30 mins.
- Teacher will begin by asking the students the following questions:
- What are some of the rules we follow in school?
- At which other places do we have rules that we need to follow? (home, hospitals, etc.)
- Why do you think we need these rules?
- Do we also have any such rules for our country? Where are these rules written?
Take 1-2 responses and summarize.
- Teacher will say, “Close your eyes, and imagine a place where you would love to live, your own dream country. Think in your mind – What is the name of your country? What kind of people do you see living there? How is the weather?” Pause few seconds, and then ask them to open their eyes.
- Tell them that – Today we will create rules for an imaginary country that we dream of in groups. Divide the class into groups of 6-8 students as per the class size.
- Explain the task with the help of office bearers by writing the underlined words on board.
- Give name to their Dream country.
- Draw & design your country shape, flag, location on the world map & describe about its general vibe/climate.(Note: Make unique flag/symbols to avoid duplication with any country’s existing flag.)
- Write about the people of their country (how many people, composition in terms of gender – male/female, what kind of people, how they behave, feel i.e., old, young, happy, angry, etc.)
- Write atleast 3 rules that every person in the country must follow. For example – Treat everyone with respect and kindness
- Tell the groups have 20 mins to create the dream country on available paper. Make sure all components given in task are covered – Name of country, country shape, flag, climate, population, and 3 rules. For reference refer to Annexure 1.
Office Bearers can display the Dream Country Group presentation on Desh Apnayen Wall. Groups can create and colour the flag of their dream country as HW if time is short.
CONCLUDE THE ACTIVITY
Estimated Time: 15 mins
NOTE - If time permits, teacher can give Office Bearer opportunity to do conclude this activity as mentioned below. Incase if time is short, invite the office bearer to ask the students – What did they learn from the activity?
Office Bearer will ask the following questions --
- How was the experience of creating these rules for your country?
- Why do you think it is important for a country to create rules?
- Who is responsible to following the rules in a country?
- What do you think is the purpose of the rule book (Constitution)? (Teacher can answer in summary if students are unable to answer)
Teacher will summarize the key learning points for the activity –
- Experience of creating rules got us to know that it is not easy to make them, but it also gave us feeling of ownership.
- Rules help to keep order and discipline in the country and protect everyone.
- The book where all the rules and laws for the country are written is called the Constitution. It helps to make sure that everyone is treated equally as the same rules apply to all.
