Empathy & Dignity for all
Overview
“I think we should talk more about our empathy deficit – the ability to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes; to see the world through the eyes of those who are different from us – the child who’s hungry, the steelworker who’s been laid off, the family who lost the entire life they built together when the storm came to town. When you think like this, when you choose to broaden your ambit of concern and empathize with the plight of others, whether they are close friends or distant strangers; it becomes harder not to act; harder not to help.”
– Barack Obama
The month of December is almost upon us; the year comes to an end. We take a bow for the year with ‘Empathy and Dignity for all,’ the theme for this month.
We hope that our ACTIZEN teachers and students will find the following activities inspiring and thought-provoking.
- In Classroom Activity- A Path to Empathy- for us to empathize with people from different walks of life
- School Level Activity- Gratitude Day- where we appreciate the support staff in our school for their contributions
- Community Engagement Activity- I Can Make the Change- where each student acts as a change maker
- Research-Based Activity- Safety and Sanitation Audit- where we take stock of the resources necessary for our dignity
