Step 1 – Introduction

Time: (10 Min) 

1. Narrate this short incident to students:

Monu couldn’t prepare for exams and decided to create chits to copy in the exam. On the exam day, one of his classmate Rani who had found his brand-new eraser, comes to him, and returns it. He is very surprised and asks her, why are you giving it back. Rani responds that she found this lying under the desk and kept it. When her mother found out about this incident, she told her that we should not take others stuff without informing them as it’s not truthful behavior. So, Rani says as your friend it is my duty to give this back to you. At this point, Monu started thinking about what he was about to do. He realizes it is wrong & dishonest on his part, so he decides not to copy in the exam. He also promises himself that as a student he will be truthful in daily life and fulfil his responsibility of being prepared for exams.

2. Ask the student following questions: 

  • a) What stopped Monu from doing wrong/ being tempted?
  • b) What value or belief did Monu practice?

The teacher should elicit the value of Honesty /Doing Right/ Truthfulness/ not taking others stuff, obeying teacher, listening to instructions, helping each other, following class rules, being prepared for exams, etc., through these questions. 

Teacher will introduce the activity with help of introduction given above.

Step 2 – Integrity Portrait

Estimated Time (30 Mins)

1. Teacher will divide the class into 4 groups. Each group will be given one issue card as given in Annexure 1.

Note: In case of large group size, teacher can also divide in 6 groups, extra issue cards are available. Teacher can also use same example for all groups. Objective is to understand about Integrity means being honest and responsible.

2. Ask students to discuss the problem and present responses covering following questions:

  • a) What should you do in this situation? (Choice)
  • b) What would you do in this situation that shows honesty? (Truthful)
  • c) What should you do as your responsibility? (Responsibility)
  • d) Why should you do anything to solve the issue? (Why take action?)
  • e) How would you solve the issue? (Solution)

3. After reading the problem, they will think about the above questions and present the responses as characteristics of a person like a Portrait shown below. Teacher can show this example.

4. Tell the students they have 25 mins to complete the activity. The teacher would move around in the classroom to ensure that the groups are doing the activity as instructed.

5. Once the groupwork is completed, teacher will ask the students to display them on Desh Apnayen Wall. Tell the students they can read other group stories during break time.

Note: If additional time is available, teacher can also invite groups to present their stories. (optional)

Step 3 – Debrief of Activity

Estimated time: 5-7 mins.

Ask students the following questions to debrief the activity: 

  1. What have you learnt from the activity? (Take 1-2 responses.)
  2. What are some characteristics of a person with Integrity?
  3. Why is it important to be a responsible person?
  4. How can responsible person contribute to the community/nation?

Conclude the session by summarizing the points of discussion (few given in picture below for reference) as per the time & resources available.

Homework: (Optional)

In what ways can you demonstrate honesty and responsibility in your daily life, whether it is at home, school, or in your community. They can create simple lists/posters/record videos and upload them.

Reflection Sheets, Activity Report & Feedback Form 

Teachers kindly fill in the feedback form, remind office bearers to fill activity report and remind students also to fill up the reflection sheets.

Annexure 1 – Issue Cards

Teacher can choose any four, extra cards are given in case if class size is larger, and more groups are to be made. If teacher wants entire class to work only on one/two issue, they can also choose that option.
