INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOME TASK
Estimated Time: 10 mins.
1. Teacher will ask the students the following questions:
- Which are some of the civic issues that exist in your neighborhood/community/city/village? (issue with waste disposal, water shortage, etc.)
- What do you do if you are facing these civic issues in your area? (Find out more about it, reasons, challenges, and any actions taken so far etc.)
2. Inform the students about the home task (individual HW):
a. Observe & List at least 4-5 civic issues in your area. Some examples of Civic issues are Traffic Congestion, potholes on roads, Waste dump, Irregular electricity supply, etc. (Keep the issue identification limited to your immediate surroundings.)
b. Once 4-5 issues are identified by you, ask at least 5 other people in your family/friends and immediate neighbors these following questions: (Ask office bearers to create copy of these questions and put on Desh Apnayen Wall for student’s reference)
- Since how many years they are living in this neighborhood/area?
- Which are the top 5 civic issues in the area that you think requires attention?
- What do you think are the reasons for these issues?
- What are some of the possible solutions (3-4) according to you for these problems/issues?
Note: Same questions to be asked to all people. Students can also do telephonic interview but same local area. Survey format is given in Annexure 1 for reference.
c. Compile the answers to all these questions given by 5 people, in table format. Prepare a one-page report showing the survey findings and personal reflections
(Note: Teacher shows the Annexure 2 for reference, students can create report in same format, or use their own format covering all the points)
Inform the students date, when the have the bring the completed HW to school.
HOMEWORK TASK
Points to remember:
- Use available paper/notebook paper to do HW. (Bring it on activity day)
- Ask direct questions and same questions to all people.
- Avoid arguments while collecting data
- Stick to facts while reporting.
(Note: Local language Is okay as well.)
Office Bearers can display the One pager on Desh Apnayen Wall for everyone who wants to put. Please pre-inform a date when to bring them.
CONCLUDE THE SESSION (TO BE DONE AFTER DIWALI VACATIONS)
Estimated Time: 15 mins.
Office Bearer will ask 2-3 students to be ready with presentation of the Homework task. Tell they will get 2-3 minutes to present. (students can volunteer or office bearer can choose/teacher can guide)
Teacher will summarize the key learning points for the activity –
- First-hand experience to recognize local challenges/issues in our community i.e. become alert about these issues around us as well as understand their causes and impact.
- Being alert and informed about local issues is the first step to take action towards solving them.
- Responsible citizens take ownership of community issues and find ways to solve them. (Like writing letters to local govt. Official, run relevant campaigns, online petitions, etc.)
DESH APNAYEN WALL
For this activity, the following can be updated by office bearers on the wall.
- Home Task One pager (if they are willing to share.) If more students want to share, office bearers can put on rotation basis for as many possible.
POINTS TO NOTE
- Please use available paper – plain or notebook pages following the best out of waste approach.
- Office Bearers to create copy of Annexure 1 and Annexure 2 along with the questions and put on Desh Apnayen wall for student’s reference.
- Inform Office bearer to pre-inform students to be prepared for presenting the Home Task.
