  1. Ask office bearers to copy Annexure 1 covering state government functions and put on Desh Apnayen Wall. Tell students to read it and think which areas Karnataka state is functioning well.
  2. Ask President and Vice President to prepare for the Office bearer conclude the activity part.
  3. Office Bearers to make sure everyone has completed the pre activity preparation atleast one day before the main activity.

Estimated Time: 30 minutes.

  1. Teacher begins by asking to – Guess the state of India for each clue
    1. Highest literacy rates state 2024(Kerala)
    2. Most prosperous state 2024 (Maharashtra)
    3. Highest Crime rate state 2024 (Uttar Pradesh)
    4. Digitally Developed State 2024 (Karnataka)
    5. Happiest State in India 2024 (Mizoram)
  2. Take 1-2 responses for each, if students don’t know the state teacher can tell them.
  3. Teacher will divide the class into groups of 6-8 students as per the class size. Each group will get 15 mins to do the group work.
  4. Task: Imagine to be state government officials of Karnataka state, and you want Karnataka to become the Star State of India.
  • List down 3 things you as state government believe Karnataka is well-known for & Why
  • Identify 2 more areas you would like Karnataka to excel in, and
  • Write one major step state government should take for each area you have identified to become top ranking in it. (For example, if you want Karnataka to become crime free state – write what laws state government should make for it?
  1. Invite each group to present and give them 2-3 mins for presentation.

(In case the groups take more time to prepare, skip the presentation part and group work can be displayed on Desh Apnayen Wall)

NOTE - If time permits, teacher can give Office Bearer opportunity to do the conclude the activity as mentioned below. Incase if time is short, invite the office bearer to ask the students – What did they learn from the activity?

Office Bearer will conclude the session by asking students the following questions – Guess if the following is the function of State government, if yes – what the state government can do to excel in this area.

  • Access to quality education for all students.
  • Waste disposal system to maintain public spaces
  • Access to basic medical facilities for all
  • Cleanliness of public spaces.
  • Readiness to face any kind of disaster

Teacher will summarize the key learning points for the activity –

  • Functions of state government include infrastructure planning, public health, law enforcement, education, budgeting within their states, etc.
  • State governments can ensure optimum functioning of their state by implementing strategies as per their role & responsibilities to cater to the needs of the citizens efficiently.

For this activity, the following can be updated by office bearers on the wall.

  • Strategy points created during the game can be put up on the Desh Apnayen Wall. (Voluntary basis)
  • Encourage 1-2 students to write the key learning from activity.

  • Make sure that notebooks and pens are only used to write down strategies. No requirement of using drawing materials.

  • For activity photos to be shared to engagement officers, please share clear pictures of
    • Group activity pictures (2 photos)
    • Office Bearer Concluding the activity (2 photos)
    • Desh Apnayen Wall (2 photos)
