All our club students are aware of the fact that an alert, informed, and active citizen can be termed as an engaged citizen or an ‘Actizen.’ They aspire to become an Actizen in true sense. This activity covers all the three aspects of developing an Actizen - Alert about the citizenship issues in the neighbourhood. Self-informed about our actions during festivals that may affect our habitat. Active and wilful to do duties as the Indian citizen to minimize such issues.
Students had begun their journey to experience the process of becoming engaged citizens from ‘My Citizenship Duty' activity. In today’s session we will continue ‘My Citizenship Duty’ activity that we had started in the previous session to continue the experience of becoming engaged citizens
- Students will be able to identify a workable solution to the general issues in their immediate environment as a part of their citizenship duty.
- Students will be able to comprehend the process to address local civic issue with their immediate local government officer.
- Students will be able to describe the process to address local civic issues with local government officer in their own words.

PRE-PREPARATION (TO BE DONE 7 DAYS BEFORE THE ACTIVITY)
Estimated time required: 5-7 minutes.
- Inform the class about the activity to be held on __________ (Date and time of the session)
- Ask students to bring their survey findings on the given activity date.
SESSION-2 (NOTE: SESSION 1 WAS DONE IN DECEMBER)
Note: Kindly complete the session 1 (if not done yet) before continuing with session - 2
Estimated time required: 45 minutes.
In the previous session students were given homework to conduct a small survey which gave an opportunity to explore the issue with an elder i.e., parent/neighbour. With help of the survey findings, we now move forward to next steps in our journey of being engaged active citizen. In this activity we will now, make use of these survey findings to compile a report in today’s session. Once the report is ready, we then move forward to address the issue and survey findings to local government office relevant to take the redressal of the issue forward.
Note: Steps 1 to 3 have been completed in the previous session 1 in December, we continue from step 4 today.
Step 4: Survey Compilation and Report Making.
1. Ask students to sit in their own groups and discuss with each other survey findings. Each group will write the survey findings and workable solutions on chart paper,
2. To compile the survey, write the survey questions again on a rough sheet and ask groups to mention findings under each question for compilation.
Previous Session’s Survey Questions are given below for reference:
- a) List issues/problems they have faced/noticed in their neighbourhood related to the theme.
- b) Where have you observed this issue in neighbourhood?
- c) Who is responsible for these issues? Why do you see these issues in the neighbourhood?
- d) What are some workable solutions to help resolve this issue?
3. With the help of rough sheet, they will identify the common points and noteworthy insights. They will also compare the responses they had listed in previous session to the responses received in Survey.
4. After the discussion is done in rough, ask the students to compile their survey findings on chart paper/notebook pages to make a report. They can also add any other important aspect to their report based on their surveys. The report can include-
- Name of their locality/area
- Theme selected.
- Number of Surveys conducted by the group.
- Basis the findings - List Issues identified in the survey.
- Workable solutions to the issues according to the group where the group need support from local government.
- Signatures of the group members
5. Tell students they have 30 minutes to do this compilation.
(Note: If chart papers are not available, students can also prepare reports using notebook pages.)
Step 5: Report Submission/Display
1. Each group will submit their report/chart paper to the teacher. Teacher can display this chart if space is available. This report will be used in the upcoming sessions for next steps forward in this Activity.
Ask students to find out about the location of the local government office that deals with their theme issues. Example: Students those who have selected ‘Air Pollution theme’ will find out the location of Air pollution control board. If Air pollution board is not located nearby visit the gram panchayat or related web portal. Students will be drafting and submitting a letter to the concerned Government office in the next session.
Note: Teacher needs to pre-inform the students of the next session date for them to be prepared with findings of their homework
SESSION - 3
Estimated time 45 minutes.
Step 6: Letter writing
1. Ask students to sit in their own groups.
2. The teacher to distribute the reports/chart papers that they had made in the previous session for reference.
3. Then each group will write a letter to the government office dealing with their theme issues stating-
Start the letter with,
- The problems/ issues identified. State why and where the problems exist.
- Number of surveys conducted.
- Workable solutions according to your Group that we need support from government.
- Requesting to address the issues, signatures of the group members.
Note: Reference Format to write letter to government is available in Annexure 1
4. Tell students they have 30 minutes to write this letter. Each group will submit their letter to the teacher.
5. (Optional) Teacher can take some representatives of the class to local government office to submit these applications.
6. The surveys can be attached with the letter as an enclosure.
7. The survey report charts can be displayed on Desh Apnayen Wall for other students to see the group work.
Step 7: Debrief
Teachers are requested to do a debrief session with all students.
