Partner Grade 9 November Activity – CONSTITUTIONAL TALES

  1. To create a story by applying understanding about guiding values and rights given in our constitution.

  1. Teacher will ask the students the following questions:
    1. In a class, the same opportunity is given to all students to share their views openly on which dance to be done in the Annual function. Which guiding value of our constitution is being followed here? (Equality) 
    2. Which other guiding values of Indian constitution are you aware of? (Justice, Unity, Fraternity, etc)
    3. During class project work, group of children are discussing various topics openly without the fear of punishment – Which fundamental right are they exercising here? (Freedom of Speech)
    4. Which are other fundamental rights you are aware of? (Right to education, right to life, etc.)
  1. Teacher will then summarize responses & tell the students that in Diwali vacation, we will complete a story that shows the guiding values and rights given in our Constitution of India.
  2. Teacher will narrate the scene & Task,

There are 5 characters in our story:

PT Teacher, helper aunty in school, student 1, student 2(child of helper aunty), student 3

SCENE:

A helper aunty/peon of school is very upset with the PT teacher because her child Rajiv isn’t selected for the final race even after winning semi-finals. The reason given is child doesn’t have sport shoes. Reena another student of the same class shares that running in slippers isn’t safe and other told that without shoes, there is a chance will lost the race. Helper aunty thinks the rule should be told before, and not when the final race is about to happen. What should happen ahead next? What in your view is the right approach to solve this issue?

Tell them they will do the following:

  1. Complete this story as per the guiding values, rights, laws of our constitution. (Students can refer to Chapter 2 – Constitutional Design of their textbook.)
  2. To write the story, give names to the characters,
  3. In first paragraph - introduce the scene & introduce the characters
  4. In second paragraph – write the situation by covering both the sides of teacher and mother. (Dialogues can be written) 
  5. In third paragraph – conclude by answering What in your view is the right approach to solve this issue as per constitution of India?
  6. Give title to your story.

Note – Ask office bearers to create the copy of points of given above along with scene and put it on Desh Apnayen Wall for entire class to refer/copy.

  1. Keep the language of story simple and specific.

(Students are free to present as per their creativity – they can also make a picture story covering all points or role play situation)

Points to remember:

  • Use available paper/notebook paper to do HW. (Bring it on activity debrief day)
  • Keep the language of story simple.

(Note: Local language Is okay as well.)

Office Bearer will ask some students to be ready with presentation of the Homework task or invite anyone who has completed the HW task for presenting their stories. Tell they will get 2-3 minutes to present.

Ask students after presentation –

(Office Bearer will prepare the questions to ask or write them down to read.)

  • Which values did you focus on in your story? Why?

  • Values guide us to follow our rights and duties in daily life.  It is the duty of everyone to follow the rules, and we should support everyone’s rights as well.
  • The book where all the rules and laws for the country are written is called the Constitution. It helps to make sure that everyone is treated equally as the same laws, rights and duties apply to all.

For this activity, the following can be updated by office bearers on the wall.

  • Home Task Story (if they are willing to share.) If more students want to share, office bearers can put on rotation basis for as many possible.

  • Please use available paper – plain or notebook pages following the best out of waste approach.
  • Inform Office bearer to prepare students for Office Bearer Recap, and also prepare the questions before the recap session. Pre-inform them the date of Office Bearer recap session.
  • Use of any preferred language

  • For activity photos (2-3) to be shared to engagement officers, please share clear pictures of
    • Office Bearer Recap session – students presenting. (2 phots)
    • Desh Apnayen Wall Photos (2 photos showing at least 3-4 students home task)
