1. Office bearers will prepare chits/statements for conclude the session part of the activity. Please ask them to be ready with it one day before the activity day.

Estimated Time: 30 minutes.

Group work time – 15 mins

1. Teacher will ask students to listen to this case carefully, then students will discuss on the following case –

Reema is very active on social media though she is 14 years now, but she has an account on all social media apps like Facebook, Instagram, snap chat etc. She loves to post each update on social media like what she ate today, place she visited recently with friends, being alone at home, night out party at friends’ place, what she purchased recently etc. She loves to get likes and comments from friends, even from strangers. Slowly, she became addicted to using these apps whole day and her parents are not aware about that. Most of the time she uses her parent’s phone and rather than studying she spends time on such apps. Her classmate Ritesh also has an account on social media, but he takes care to accept friend requests only from people he knows. His mother also has guided him to be careful while clicking on links, change passwords regularly and keep them unique, log off from the site and not to share any personal sensitive information without checking with her. Ritesh also uses them for limited time and ensures that too with safe privacy settings that lets him control who sees others get to see on his profile.

2. Teacher will divide the class in pairs ask them to create one tagline/message to spread the message of staying safe to others. Example: Be Aware – Be Secure, If you don’t know the sender, it may be a scammer.

Note: Teacher can also ask students to make creative presentation like a drawing, conversation, advertisement, etc but in one page with available notebook page and pen.

3. Teacher will randomly ask few pairs to share their work.

4. Each group will get about 2-3 mins to do the presentation.

Office Bearer displays the group presentation on Desh Apnayen Wall at the end of class.

NOTE - If time permits, teacher can give Office Bearer opportunity to conclude the activity as mentioned below. Incase if time is short, invite the office bearer to ask the students – What did they learn from the activity?

Office Bearers will divide the class into 2 groups. (or as per the rows in class). Read out the statements given below. Students will reply to this as Safe or Unsafe. Randomly choose any student from group to answer. For correct guess of Safe/Unsafe – award 5 points. For Unsafe statement, rephrase to make it safe, and they will get another 5 points.

a. Clicking on an unknown link you receive during an advertisement on you tube.

b. Accepting friend request of unknown person on Facebook.

c. Sharing your password with your friend.

d. Logging out after you have used social media.

e. Sharing personal information on social media.

f. Different passwords for all social media accounts.

(d & f statements are safe, remaining all are Unsafe)

Teacher will summarize the key learning points for the activity –

• Following the points we have learnt in the activity to be Digital ACTiZEN like using strong unique passwords online, changing passwords regularly, being careful in accepting friend requests or sharing personal information online, using safe privacy settings, logging out of our accounts and devices, etc.

Spreading this useful information to others to help them stay safe digitally.

For this activity, the following can be updated by office bearers on the wall.

• Find out facts/advertisements/articles in newspapers for staying safe online. (optional)

• Encourage students to use available paper to do the pair work.
