  1. Ask President and Vice President to write down the dialogues on a page, given by the teacher from the Annexure 1 Short Role Play – Dialogues.  
  2. Teacher will select 12 students and assign role as per the script. (Office bearer can become narrator who will invite the groups one by one to present after introducing the scene)  
  3. Ask President and Vice President to distribute the dialogues to students and tell them to go through their dialogues before the main activity day. They also need to learn the narrator part. 
  4. Inform the President and Vice President the pre activity preparation is to be completed in 2 days, before the main activity.  

Estimated Time: 30 minutes. 

  1. Today we are going to know about democracy with help of roleplay. 
  2. Teacher will ask selected students to present their roleplay one by one. 
  3. Ask the following questions after all groups have presented their roleplay. 
  • Which situation were you able to see the views of others mattered? 
  • According to you, which situations show democracy (Equal chance for everyone to put their views in front of others), and which did not?   
  • How did we elect our office bearers, did it show democracy?  
  • Give a few examples of democratic situations which you have experienced at home or based on the Role play? 

NOTE - If time permits, teacher can give Office Bearer opportunity to do the activity mentioned below. Incase if time is short, invite the office bearer to ask the students – What did they learn from the activity? Teacher will then conclude the session by summarizing key learning points. 

Teacher will support the office bearer (Yes – No Game) to recap the activity. 

Office Bearer will read out sentence. If it shows democracy, students will say Yes, and if not, students will say no. 

  • Everyone’s shouting in the classroom in the recess. 
  • Friends talking to each other “Let’s vote to decide which game to play”. 
  • Students don't listen to each other while nominating office bearer/monitor of the class. 
  • Your brother chooses to play same game with you every day that you don’t like. 
  • You and your brother decide together for Sunday lunch. 
  • Everyone in class gets chance to share their ideas about a story. 
  • Four friends, listen to each other’s view about time to play and then select suitable time for all. 
  • You and your sister share with each other three options for pet and decide a common one.  

Ask students if they any other daily life examples to share that show democracy as per them.  

Teacher will conclude the key learning points based on the discussions.  

  • In democracy, it is important to listen to each other ideas. 
  • We can make decisions together – by giving everyone chance to say their view, by voting, etc. 
  • Democracy is about working together, listening to each other, making fair decisions, respecting each other, etc. 

For this activity, the following can be updated by office bearers on the wall.

  • Role play script.
  • Any 4-5 student if they wish to share their real-life experience/example how they practice democracy.
  • Quotes on Democracy.

* Limit role play preparation time. Dressing up for role play is not required.

* Avoid lengthy preparation for role play, focus is on learning through experience.

* For activity photos to be shared to engagement officers, please share clear pictures of  

  • Role play in action photos  (2 photos)
  • Office Bearer concluding the session (2 photos)
  • Desh Apnayen Wall photos (2 photos)

Annexure1: Short Role Play – Dialogues. 

Narrator will invite all groups one by one and speak about the scene in brief. 

Scene 1 – Monu and Tina are siblings. Monu is younger brother and Tina is elder sister. 

Monu – Didi let’s play a different game today, I don’t want to play cricket. 

Tina – I really love cricket, so let’s only play cricket like we always do.  

Monu with sad face go with Tina and start playing cricket. 

Scene 2 Sheetal and Rita are siblings, and they got a chance to visit their grandparents where they have TV. They are fighting to watch their favorite show on the TV. 

Sheetal - I like to watch cartoons on TV, let’s watch that together on TV.  

Rita- But I like to watch movies on TV. 

Sheetal - So let us watch cartoon for half an hour and then we will watch a movie together. 

Both are happy and decided to watch TV together. 

Scene 3 Dinesh and Dolly are completing their homework in the evening. Once it is finished both asked - 

Dinesh and Dolly – Our HW and all tasks are completed. Can we go out and play today? 

Mom – No Dolly will only go to play, you need to help your father in his work now. No questions further. 

Dolly happily go out and Dinesh with sad face went to his father to help him.

Scene 4 Ami and Yash lives with her family in a village. On Sunday her family was invited by their neighbours for lunch. But children are not willing to go as they want to spend their holiday by playing in the park with their friends. They discussed this with their mother and asked for solution. 

Mother to father – Ami and Raju wants to play with friends in the park today and don’t want to go to neighbours’ home for lunch. What should we do? 

Father calls children and explains – You can go to park first for 1 hour and me and your mother will go to neighbours’ house. After that you both can come and join us for lunch. In the Evening we all will again go to the park.
