PRE – ACTIVITY PREPARATION
- Ask President and Vice President to be prepared for concluding the activity part before the main activity day
MAIN ACTIVITY
- Teacher will divide the class into groups of 6-8 students each as per class size.
- Tell the groups to select/pick up one local issue based on survey done in previous activity in their group. Group members need to select any one common issue that most of the members of group observed. The group can also select any other topic of their choice with teacher’s approval provided it is an issue identified in the neighborhood.
Note: Brief description of various themes is given in Annexure 1 for reference purposes.
- Task – Create Citizen Action Points in group showing small steps that they(citizens) can take to solve the issue. Students can write in available paper covering the following points -

- Tell students they have 20 mins to create Citizen Action Points for their selected issue.
- Tell the students that in the coming week, spread awareness about these actions to others (15 people as group) who experience this issue – they can take signatures from them as promise to follow these steps.
Note - 15 other people outside the classroom i.e. in school/family - It can be other students/teachers/staff members of school, parents, siblings, etc. The group should follow the safety norms while spreading awareness. Avoid spreading awareness to unknown people.
CONCLUDE THE ACTIVITY
NOTE - If time permits, teacher can give Office Bearer opportunity to do conclude this activity as mentioned below. Incase if time is short, invite the office bearer to ask the students – What did they learn from the activity?
Office Bearer will conclude the session with help of following questions:
- How was your experience of working in a group?
- How will your actions help to solve the identified issue?
- How can you continue to be active and responsible citizen in future?
Teacher will summarize the key learning points for the activity –
- Recognize the importance of individual responsibility and group efforts in spreading awareness about local issues.
- Being alert and aware about the issues around us, act responsibly by taking personal initiatives, working collaboratively with others to address local issues.

For this activity, the following can be updated by office bearers on the wall.
- Group Work Presentation with Signatures that are collected (Groups can share to display once they have completed taking the signatures.)
POINTS TO NOTE
- Students can spread awareness as a group to minimum 15 people.
- Tell students to follow safety norms - Avoid spreading awareness to unknown people.

ANNEXURE
Annexure 1 – Themes
- Air Pollution: The government, police, pollution control boards are suggesting many alternative ways to do things in our day-to-day life that do not pollute the environment. Even strict warnings are given in some cities regarding Air pollution by the concerning Pollution body.
- Traffic management: Traffic related challenges are becoming a concern for many localities due to increase in number of private vehicles. Traffic congestions, road accidents, following traffic guidelines, etc are some of the issues of concern under this theme.
- Waste management: Waste Management has emerged as a major challenge in many parts of the country. Although most of us know about it we tend to forget about it or do not prioritise it. Some issues under the theme of concern are littering, improper disposal of waste, excessive waste generation, etc.
- Health Care Services: Inadequate access to basic healthcare services such as shortage of medical professionals, a lack of quality assurance, insufficient health infrastructure, poor awareness of health-related services and schemes, etc. are some of the areas of concern under this theme.
- Digital Safety: Nowadays we see lot of sales schemes and gift vouchers are flashing on various digital platforms, messages to click on link, emails/messages about winning lottery, people reaching out to ask One Time Passwords on pretext of lie like unpaid bill connection, etc. Some of them are digital traps to extract money from people through digital gateways. Some of the issues of concern under this theme are such digital frauds, One Time Passwords sharing risks, click on any links, etc.
- Roads related issues: Roads are an important part of the neighbourhood. Adverse conditions of the roads or poor light system on the road may create severe problems for the neighbourhood.
- Clean Drinking Water: Communities need clean water to stay physically healthy and prevent diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, typhoid, etc. Some of the issues of concern are insufficient access to purified drinking water, water pollution, scarcity of drinking water, poor infrastructure for water management, etc.
- Stray Animals: In some localities, there is an increase in the number of stray animals. These animals search for food, shelter and in their search may lead to unintended harm to people around them. Some of the issues of concern under this theme are irresponsible pet ownership, halting traffic flow which may result in road accidents, biting/causing harm to people, etc.
Note: The group can also select any other topic of their choice with teacher’s approval provided it is a local civic issue prevalent in their community.
