PRE-ACTIVITY PREPARATION
- Ask President and Vice President to prepare for the Office bearer conclude the activity part.
- Inform the President and Vice President the pre activity preparation is to be completed at least one day before the main activity.
- Teacher can refer to reference materials given in Annexure 1 to guide students for the activity.
MAIN ACTIVITY
Estimated Time: 30 minutes.
- Teacher begins – Today we will discuss issues that we observe in our state, research what steps have been taken to resolve these issues and suggest ways to solve these issues if they still exist in the state.
- Divide the students into groups of 6-8 students as per the class size.
- Assign one theme from the following to each group (Students can select theme of their choice, or teacher can randomly assign.)
- Health Care
- Education
- Law & Order
- Infrastructure
- Technology
- Environment
Groups choice: The group can select any other theme of their choice with teacher’s approval provided it is issue they observe at state level. Some examples under each theme are given in Annexure 1 for reference.
- In their own groups, students will discuss further to select the issues seen or experienced in their state as per the theme selected. Each group will discuss on the following questions:
- List issues/problems they have noticed in their state related to the theme.
- Who is responsible for these issues? Why do you see these issues in the state?
- What are some ways(solutions) that are adopted by state government to solve this issue?
- What other suggestions do they have for state government to solve this issue?
- Students need to be informed that the group discussion time is only 25 minutes. They will create a table of the responses in the notebook page.
- As part of Homework, they will find further about this issue by researching more about it in newspaper, observing what steps in their localities they see are taken to solve this and verify with parent/any other elder in the family the responses of four questions worked in class. Ask each student to note down their responses & take signature of respondent and bring on Jan activity date.
(Note – Students can divide the task of researching in newspaper and observation in local surroundings among themselves. Verify the responses with parent/any other elder in family everyone will do the task.
CONCLUDE THE ACTIVITY
NOTE - If time permits, the teacher can give Office Bearer the opportunity to conclude this activity as mentioned below. Incase if time is short, invite the office bearer to ask the students – What did they learn from the activity?
Office Bearer will conclude the session by asking representative from different group to come forward and present the responses to the group activity. Limit 2-3 mins time to each group.
Teacher will summarize the key learning points for the activity –
- We should be aware of issues affecting us and others in our state.
- To find solutions for these issues, we can find out more about reasons of issue, ways that others have followed to solve this, what steps the local and state government have taken to solve the issue etc. by finding out more through discussion with elders, newspapers, observing our local surroundings for steps taken, etc.
Note: Teacher needs to pre-inform the students of the January session date for them to be prepared with findings of their homework

- Tell the students, this is a continuing activity, so make sure to ask these questions at least to one other person in the family/immediate neighborhood.
- If you feel, for safety reasons, they should discuss it only with their parents, do not give them the option of neighbors.

Annexure 1 – Supporting Reference Docs
- Students can find out about Policy level initiatives for the topic/theme selected through newspapers or discussing with elders
- Spot what initiatives are taken for solving the issues in their locality. For example – for cleanliness related issue – when is regular street cleaning done, is waste collected everyday/gap of two days, etc.
- Any state level rankings available, they can find out about it. For example – for pollution, if there is any pollution index, for cleanliness, what is the ranking of state, where was it before, etc.
- Health Care – Medical care facilities, availability of doctors, sanitation and hygiene practices, vaccination drives, etc.
- Education – school infrastructure, education quality and facilities, access to schools, drop-out rates, etc.
- Law & Order – Crime rates, safety of people, access to police services, case resolutions, etc.
- Infrastructure – roadways between cities, highways, electricity supply infrastructure, water supply infrastructure, etc.
- Technology – Connectivity in remote areas, internet and tele connection issues, cyber safety, digital literacy, and awareness programs, etc.
- Environment – Pollution of air, water, noise, etc. – its associated laws and protection policies, waste management practices, deforestation, etc.
